FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you have any questions about the app, please check below first in case we can answer it right away.

I have a suggestion for a cool feature that I’d like to see in the app. Who can I contact about my idea?
Please contact iphoneappsupport@perthzoo.wa.gov.au. We would love to hear your feedback and ideas for our app.

I can’t download the app from my app store.
The Perth Zoo App is approved for download from the Australian and the United States  app stores. If you are outside one of these countries, you can still download the app but it must be done from iTunes on your computer. Here’s how: open iTunes and click on the iTunes Store. Search for “Perth Zoo”. If it doesn’t show, click on the round icon at the bottom right of your screen that has your country’s flag inside. Select one of the countries above (Australia or USA) and then search for the app again. It should appear in your search results for you to download. We are gradually opening the app up to more stores internationally and apologise for the inconvenience.

I found a problem with the app. Who can I tell about this?
Please fill in the form at the top of the page. We review all problems submitted and will attempt to rectify the errors in new releases or updates.

What sort of phone connection do I need?
As long as you have a connection to the Internet, whether it is with your phone’s 3G connection or a wireless Internet connection you will be able to download and use the app.  The size of the app is 10.6mb to download so should be possible over your 3G connection. However, because Perth Zoo does not supply wi-fi to general visitors, downloads at the Zoo will be over your own 3G connection and be through your own download quota.

In order to keep the information regarding our events and animals up to date, we update our data once a day from the Internet. If this is the first time you have downloaded the app, and you have no 3G Internet connection, you will not be able to download the data. Please try and access the app when you have an internet connection such as wireless or 3G. This will load the data and you will be able to access the animal information and view where the animals are located.

When I locate myself on the map it says I am in a different spot to where I actually am?
This feature is intended as only as a guide to help you find your way. Unfortunately many things can interfere with the accuracy of the GPS reading, such as cloudy day, trees and limited connection. If you move, this will correct itself once you have better 3G reception.

Does the app include all the animals at the Zoo?
The Animals tab provides a list of most of the many animals that you can see at the Zoo. Some exhibits may be closed for renovations but you can still access the information about the animals.

The map includes most of the animals, however the Nocturnal House, Reptile Encounter and Australian Wetlands are limited due to the number of animals in those areas. If you would like to access information about an animal in these areas, you can search for them in the animal list. This will be changed at a future date to be able to view them at their locations.

Do the events always run at the Zoo?
Our events are always planned to run on the days listed in the app. Sometimes due to weather, or for animal management reasons we may need to cancel an event. We attempt to update the event list to remove the event from that day, however sometimes we may not be able to make the change in time. We apologise for any inconvenience and hope you can enjoy one of our other daily events.

I treated the animal multiple times, then I changed phones or had to re-install the app and now my treat number is zero. What happened to them?
Once you uninstall the app and re-install, the animals forget how many times you treated them. But they do remember that you fed them and hope you continue to give them more tasty treats.

What actually happens when I treat an animal?
When you treat an animal you purchase a “Zoo Animal Treat” which is a virtual treat for the animals. The animals don’t immediately receive anything from you but what happens is that the proceeds of your purchase contributes to supporting the care of the animals and upkeep of Perth Zoo.

Does 100% of my purchase of a “Zoo Animal Treat” go to the Zoo?
Apple takes its standard commission of 30% of all purchases made through iPhone apps. Therefore 70% of your purchase goes to Perth Zoo.

I changed phones or re-installed the app and now my custom images are gone. Can I get them back?
When you delete the app your custom images are no longer available within the app. However we do save the images to your photo gallery so if you backed up your photos on your computer they should still be available for you.

I accidently deleted an image from the app. Can I get it back?
The image cannot be added back into the app, however a copy is saved in your photo gallery.

When I try and take a photo with the front facing camera on my phone the image comes up black?
This is a problem with the iPhone itself. If you are having this problem, we suggest speaking to Apple for some possible solutions.

Where did the photos in the app come from?
The fantastic photography and video work contained in the app are from a few different individuals. We’d like to thank Daniel Scarparolo, Geoff Scales, Phil England and Derek Smith.

Do you collect any personal information on me?
Currently Perth Zoo only collects certain information on the usage of the app.

These include:

  • number of downloads of the app
  • number of animal treats made.

In the future the Zoo may collect certain data on how the app is used across all users. For instance which animals were most popular or how long an average visit to the Zoo was. We will not collect any personal data that identifies individual user behaviour.
