Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a booking?
Have a look through our wide range of Education Experiences to choose a learning experience that is right for your students. Use the online booking request form or contact us by phone on (08) 9474 0365. Select a few alternative dates for your excursion in case your first choice is unavailable.

How much will my visit cost?
Prices vary depending whether your students are having an Education Experience or just a visit to Perth Zoo. Prices are found here.

Do my adult helpers need to pay for Zoo entry?
Some adults are elligible for free entry depending on the number of students coming to the Zoo. The ratio is: one adult per five children (Kindy to Yr 2)one adult per ten students (Yr 3 – Tertiary).

This allowance only applies to bookings made through the Zoo’s education centre. An adult is defined as a teacher, parent or carer over 18 years of age.
Otherwise adults need to pay regular Zoo entry fees.

How many adult helpers should I bring to the Zoo?
Well-behaved students equal a great excursion. We strongly recommend a ratio of:
ONE Teacher/Adult for every FIVE Kindergarten/Pre-primary Students and ONE Teacher/Adult for every TEN Year 1-12 students.

How do I pay for my school excursion?
Please complete and bring along a ‘School Purchase Order’ on the day of your excursion if you wish to be invoiced for your visit.

Does Perth Zoo have an excursion policy?
Perth Zoo Day Visit Excursion Management Plan (pdf) is available online and has been approved by the Department of Education.

Do I have to buy a Zoo Map?
A specially designed copy of the Zoo Map will be sent out with your booking which you may photocopy for your accompanying adults or students. An electronic copy of the Schools Zoo Map (pdf) map is available here.

Will my students have an animal encounter during their Education Experience?
We endeavour to provide a variety of fantastic animal encounters where relevant to specific education experiences.

To ensure that we provide the best possible care for our education animals we have policies in place that can effect encounter opportunities. For example:

  • Our animals alternate between rest days and handling days.
  • Reptile sloughing – snakes and lizards can not be handled where they are shedding their skin (scales).
  • Snake feeding – snakes cannot be handled for two days after feeding.

If your students do have an animal encounter, please ensure they wash their hands with soap and water.

Where is the meeting point for our Education Experience?
Most of our education experiences are held in the Discovery and Learning Centre. Please assemble your students in the area under the white sail to the left of the Zoo entrance. Some programs have alternative meeting points so please check your confirmation letter.

Where can we store our lunches?
Student lunches can be left on the main lawn or in the shelters nearby. If you plan to leave lunches here, they are best stored in sealed containers as wild birds have been known to undo zips and knots in bags.
