Distribution: Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina
Habitat: Lowlands, wetlands, grazing areas and palm forests.

Description: This colourful parakeet is instantly recognizable by its black head and bib of powder-blue plumage. It has a bright green body, blue-black tail and red colouring around its feet resembling socks.

Diet: The Nanday Conure is a herbivore and feeds on copernicia fruits and agricultural crops.

In the wild: Nanday Conures gather to roost in flocks of several hundred. Sociable birds, conures can be found drinking with other species at waterholes.

Threats: Nanday Conures are common in the wild but are hunted because they damage crops. They also suffer from habitat loss.
