You can help save a life…

Kylie Bullo“Have you ever looked into the eyes of an orangutan or put your hand against theirs? It’s both a rewarding and an emotional experience. It’s something I get to do every day and I’m still in awe of these amazing apes. I can’t help but feel a deep connection with them…and also a deep sadness because they are facing extinction in the wild.

“While I get to care for the orangutans at Perth Zoo and ensure they are living healthy and happy lives, many orangutans are not so fortunate. That’s why I’m glad to be working for the Zoo in its mission to help these critically endangered primates in their homeland of Sumatra, Indonesia.

“Each year, I visit Sumatra to work with ex-pet and orphaned orangutans that have been rescued from conditions so terrible that they have forgotten how to be orangutans. With time and care, these orangutans can and are being rehabilitated and returned to the wild.”

Bukit Tigapuluh

Perth Zoo supports wildlife conservation projects in Australia and around the world. This year, we need your help to raise $114,000 through our Wildlife Conservation Action (WCA) fund to support ongoing conservation projects in the Bukit Tigapuluh rainforest ecosystem in Sumatra. With the support of WCA, this pristine rainforest is now home to rescued Sumatran Orangutans. Learn more about our work in Sumatra.

Your donation will make a real difference.

Wildlife Protection Unit100% of your donation will help protect wildlife as Perth Zoo covers all WCA administration costs.

So far in Sumatra, donations through WCA have helped to:

  • construct an open orangutan sanctuary and care for rescued orangutans
  • release rescued orangutans into the wild
  • Baby Orangutanfund Wildlife Protection Units patrolling the forests
  • fund a mobile education unit working in the local communities.

Please help us protect orangutans.

“More than 140 rescued orangutans now have a home in the rainforests of Bukit Tigapuluh and more will follow. I’ve been fortunate to be there as they climb 20m high trees, disappear into the rainforest and build night nests in these giant trees.

“If you want to offer your hand to an orangutan, if you ever want to look into their eyes knowing you did something to help them, make a donation today to Perth Zoo’s WCA.

“Every dollar counts.”
