How often are they fed?

It is difficult to list the eating habits of every animal in the Zoo. Some animals eat small meals throughout the day (marsupials, birds and some reptiles), some ‘browse’ or graze constantly throughout the day (giraffe, zebra and rhinoceros) while others (reptiles, large carnivores) may eat one big feed a couple of times per week or even once a week. It all depends on the animal and its metabolic needs.

One thing that many of the animals have in common is that part of their daily food allowance is kept aside each day to be used as enrichment throughout the day. Scatter feeds, treats and hidden food portions all make the act of consuming the daily nutrition as interesting and rewarding as possible.
