Where did the squirrels at Perth Zoo come from? Can we catch and keep one?
The Indian Palm Squirrels that can be seen running free in the Zoo grounds were imported by the Zoo (then called the Acclimatization Committee) and then released in 1898. The Department of Agriculture has proclaimed that the Palm Squirrels are a vertebrate pest, making it illegal to catch and keep this species.
